SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - At its regular board meeting Tuesday, the Metropolitan Planning Commission received updates on five different department of transportation projects.
There were updates on the continued progress on projects involving State Roads 21 and 204, U.S. 80 and the I-16 flyover removal. A preferred option for that project was selected out of three presented to the public.
"The next step is to continue to refine concept No. 3, which we want to come back to the MPC, Savannah City Council and Chatham County Commission and provide them with a more detailed look at the project. We are also continuing to work on the implementation plan and the funding study so that will also be presented to them at that time," said Ellen Harris, MPC urban planning manager.
MPC's next update on the Interstate16 flyover removal will be May 17. Construction on the project that will create 9 acres of developable land where the current exit sits is expected to being in 2016.
