Red Cross Recognizes Rear Detachment

While many soldiers from our area were deployed to the front lines, others stayed behind to make sure operations kept running at home. Now the American Red Cross is making sure the rear detachment unit's work is not going unnoticed. On Saturday, the group honored the soldiers with an appreciation luncheon at Carey Hilliard's.

The troops and their families feasted on a variety of foods and desserts. Soldiers with the rear detachment say they're grateful for the recognition. "For the Red Cross to at least say, 'Hey, you're doing a great job,' is very much appreciated and admired by me,"  Spec. Marion Green with the 24th Ordinance Company said.

About 200 people showed up for the event. This is the sixth luncheon the American Red Cross has hosted for our local military families.
