The man who led the Third Infantry Division into battle will soon be working at the Pentagon. Major General Buford Blount's command ends on Friday, after nearly two years at Fort Stewart that included the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
General Blount believes if everyone could see how the people in Iraq live, it would convince them that the president's campaign against Saddam Hussein was warranted. "Clearly a regime there needed to change. If you look at the torture, the murder, the domination that family had on the country, what the Baath Party had over the country, it needed to be changed," Blount said.
General Blount also says President Bush's visit two weeks ago was a great way to welcome home all the soldiers who served in Iraq and to wrap up his command.
