SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - After a 21 year run, Lipsey Motors closed down back in 1989 but Friday new life emerged as the family of the late Ralph Lipsey, Sr. cut the ribbon to re-open the historic family business.
The Savannah Development and Renewal Authority hosted the event, welcoming the dealership, the Lipsey Automotive Group, back home to the Westside of town.
"After my dad passed away, he told me I had to come home. Low and behold, I had no reason to come home and God just kept showing us and directing us and brought us back to this spot with the help of Mr. Joe Addison we were able to come right back home, right to 423 Montgomery Street," said Bernita Lipsey, co-owner of Lipsey Automotive Group.
Ralph Lipsey, Sr. became the first licensed black car dealer in Georgia when he opened his business back in 1968.
The new dealership will specialize in quality used vehicles.
