BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) - The American Red Cross is helping the south after tornadoes and floods destroyed many communities across the south.
They are in urgent need of mental health workers to help them.
"People have lost their home They've lost friends. They've lost family. They are in need of people who can help them get through this area. We all pray for them and we support them but this is a way we can actively support them. We can go out, meet with them, console them, we can give them some guidance and support," said Ila Shapiro, a Red Cross volunteer coordinator.
The Red Cross will hold training sessions from 1 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday and Friday at the Community Mental Health Center on Ribaut Road in Beaufort.
To be eligible as a disaster mental health volunteer, you must have a state license. For more information contact Phil Woody at 843.764.2323 ext 365 or email him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
