Northern Ga. picking up after ferocious storm

SPALDING CO., GA (WTOC) - Devastation from twisters is still being felt in northern Georgia.

One middle Georgia community was among those hit hard. Griffin in Spalding County, Ga., is just south of Atlanta.

The tornado killed two people and did millions of dollars in damage to homes, businesses and acres of timber. The tornado stayed on the ground for 17 miles across Spalding County.

"Our neighbor rushed over and said their house had been hit by the tornado but our house had been destroyed. We didn't know how bad it was until we came outside and couldn't really see it until daylight," said Joe Peavy, a tornado victim.

Disaster teams from the American Red Cross are there and in northern Georgia are providing relief help in the area.
