Bomb squad removes backpack from Ellis Square

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A bomb scare closed down Ellis Square in downtown Savannah on Wednesday morning.

Just after 8 a.m., Savannah-Chatham Metro Police received a call about a suspicious backpack in Ellis Square near the restrooms.

The bomb squad responded and secured the area.Police said that they found clothing belonging to a homeless person inside the bag.

Ellis Square and surrounding roads were reopened just before 10 a.m.
