The American Red Cross is calling for licensed health services volunteers, such as nurses, to help those in need after the recent tornadoes, floods and storms in the Midwest.
A training event for those volunteers who are selected will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday around the state in coordination with the South Carolina Dept. of Mental Health.
In order to be sent out in Health Services volunteers must: Be a licensed health services professional; pass a criminal background check; hold a valid driver's license; be willing and able to live and work in adverse conditions; be in excellent physical and mental health.
Volunteers will be asked to deploy for at least two weeks after training is complete. If they are unable to deploy at this time, they will be placed on a list for response during hurricane season.
Training sessions will be held at the Coastal Empire Community Mental Health Center at 1050 Ribault Rd. in Beaufort.
Those who are interested should contact Phil at the Red Cross at 843.764.2323 x 365 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
