City Mission holds fundraising events to qualify for grant

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Old Savannah City Mission is pulling out all the stops this month in their effort to raise enough money to qualify for a grant, and the deadline is early June.

They held a five star golf tournament Tuesday at Savannah Harbor. Several groups from the Coast Empire had teams paticipating in the event, as well as WTOC. A special group from the Nightstalkers was also there.

Reverend Jim Lewis says our area is in desperate need of a come-as-you-are emergency shelter for women and children.

"And when I say emergency, I'm talking about a shelter that's easily accessed, no complications, no id, no social security. Just be destitute and need help, and we're there for them." stated Reverend Lewis, Exec. Dir., OSCM.

You can help the Old Savannah City Mission at their first ever Friends & Neighbors Car Show this Saturday, May 21, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Bible Baptist Day School parking lot. You don't need a fancy car either, register any automobile, motorcylce, or truck you would like. The event will include a silent auction and food provided by Bojangles restaurant. Leopold's will be supplying ice cream for the event, and owner Stratton Leopold himself will be there for the judging.
