Kite buggies take to Jekyll Island for expo

JEKYLL ISLAND, GA (WTOC) -

The fourth annual Jekyll Island Buggy Expo kicks off Wednesday.

It's dubbed as the only annual kite buggy rally in the Southern U.S.

The event will run fnoon to 6:45 p.m. from Wednesday to Saturday. On Thursday through Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., there will be free clinics for people to try a four-line trainer kite under the supervision and coaching of an experienced flier.

Kite-buggy pilots, land-boarders, blokarts and all traction and power kite fliers are welcome.

A portion of proceeds from the event will benefit the Georgia Sea Turtle Center on Jekyll Island.

Members of the public are welcome to attend and watch the spectacle of so many colorful and fast moving nylon sails in the air.

The staging area will be on Kite Beach in front of Fins on the beach, just north of the former convention center site on Beachview Drive.
