ATLANTA (WTOC) - Over the Memorial Day holiday, the Georgia Department of Transportation is suspending construction-related lane closures.
The restriction starts at 5 a.m. May 27 and runs until 10 p.m. May 30.
The DOT reminds drivers that heavy holiday traffic is expected throughout the state and crews may be still be working near highways.
Some long-term lane closures may still remain in place, according to the DOT. Incident management or emergency, maintenance-related lane closures could become necessary at any time on any route, according to the DOT.
In Georgia over Memorial Day weekend, there has been more than 2,000 crashes resulting in more than a dozen fatalities and more than 1,000 injuries, said Transportation Commissioner Vance. C. Smith Jr. in a statement.
