Trying to cut the budget could cost a key mental health care provider, but not if Chatham County commissioners have their way. They're organizing three task forces to keep Georgia Regional in Savannah open. One represents service providers, another the people, and the third groups like law enforcement agencies. Commissioners say the hospital helps everyone.
"This is not a Chatham County issue, the whole region is affected by this," said county commissioner Frank Murray.
They were going to lobby, sending people to Atlanta to campaign for the hospital, but the decided to start with the task forces. They think they'll be more effective.
