Fort Pulaski to kick off summer season

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Memorial Day weekend marks the beginning of Fort Pulaski's extension of hours for the summer season.

The fort's cannon crew will perform cannon firings on Saturday, while dressed as Civil War soldiers. These demonstrations feature a historically accurate firing drill that is virtually copied from the Civil War artillery manuals, according to the park.

Extended hours for Fort Pulaski will begin on May 28.

The summer hours are: Visitor Center open from 8:45 a.m. – 6:45 p.m.; Fort 9 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.; The park gates will close at 7 p.m.

The Fort Pulaski National Monument is on U.S. Hwy 80, 15 miles east of
Savannah.  There is a entrance fee of $5 per person is charged; ages 15 and under
are free.
