Illegal dumping focus of upcoming meeting

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Trash and junk that should be disposed of is finding its way into some people's back yards.

A public meeting is going to be held to discuss the problem. The meeting will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Floyd Adams Park on West 32nd Street.

Some people in a Liberty Heights neighborhood are dealing with the problem.

There are tires, roof tiles and other debris being dumped on the side of the road, and it's against the law.

"We're seeing people dumping toilets, TVs, tires, furniture, trash, papers - everything," said Patricia Greene, a Liberty Heights resident.

What about our ecosystem, our environmental system. these things are not just going to disappear.

"This is not an occurrence just in this area. This happens all over the city. We have illegal dumps throughout the city. It's not just one neighborhood or one area at all. It's throughout the city. It's a consistent problem," said John Danion, the Residential Refuse Collections director.
