SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The 19th annual American Diabetes Association's Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes fund-raising campaign kicks off Wednesday with a breakfast and meeting.
The meeting will take place from 8 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Savannah downtown.
Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes is a national fund-raising effort of the American Diabetes Association where participants are encouraged to raise funds and awareness over five months.
Jim Tait, director of finance for Gulfstream Aerospace, is leading the 2011 Step Out campaign.
The Kick-Off will feature information about diabetes, offer fund-raising strategies and suggestions, detail upcoming special events to be held this year and also include a local guest speaker personally affected by Type I diabetes.
Attendees will also learn how to become a sponsor and/or form a walk team for the walk. The Step Out Walk is a two-mile walk, which will be held on Oct. 15 at the newly renovated Oatland Island Wildlife Center.
There are also be a light breakfast, live music, face painting, Savannah Sand Gnats pitching tent, Bounce Around and complimentary massages by Savannah School of Massage Therapy.
All funds raised for this event benefit the American Diabetes Association.
