Veterans commemorate D-Day

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - World War II veterans are commemorating the D-Day landings on Monday.

On June 6, 1944, Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy, France, on "D-Day," beginning the liberation of German-occupied Western Europe.

It was 67 years ago Monday, the invasion, also called "Operation Overlord," involved five separate landings by American, British, and Canadian troops and was commanded by American Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower.
