GSU opens City Campus in downtown Statesboro

STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) -

Georgia Southern University is holding a grand opening for its new City Campus in downtown Statesboro on Thursday.

The event takes place from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday on East Main Street next to City Hall.

The grand opening is being held along with the Statesboro Chamber of Commerce's Business After Hours. Attendees can tour the City Campus and find out what it has to offer the business community.

The City Campus is a joint effort between GSU, the Downtown Statesboro Development Authority, and the city of Statesboro that aims to boost the economic development of the city and downtown area, according to the university.

"The City Campus highlights the important relationship between Georgia Southern University and the Statesboro/Bulloch County community," said Georgia Southern University President Brooks Keel, in a statement. "The University is very fortunate to be located in a community that is so supportive of its endeavors. Georgia Southern looks forward to the opportunities the City Campus will bring to support the current and future business leaders of Statesboro and Bulloch County."

The City Campus will include University's Bureau of Business Research and Economic Development and E-Zone, which is part of the University's Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and Learning. The E-Zone has classrooms, meeting space, and space for small businesses to use during their startup phase.

There's also a branch of the University Store on the City Campus. The City Campus University Store's summer hours are 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
