Southside fire raises $40,000 for burn victims

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Firefighters run head into burning buildings to save lives.

They're first in line to help victims hospitalized with burn injuries especially firefighters with the Skidaway division of Southside Fire Dept.

This year, the Skidaway division raised $40,000 for the Burn Foundation. The donation will go to help patients and their families.

"If we can do this, then we're happy to do it. We've done this now for six years in a row on Skidaway, and the results keep going up, and up, and up. So we're happy to be able to present a pretty good check to them today," said Assistant Chief Lars Ljungdahl of the Southside Fire Dept.

In six years of raising money with the Fire and Ice Ball, the Skidaway division has raised $150,000. The money is used for  treatments, medicine, food and lodging.
