Blankenship's bid for clemency rejected

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

He's been on death row for nearly 30 years, but on June 23rd Roy Blankenship will finally be put to death.

The Georgia State Board of Pardons rejected Blankenship's bid for clemency. He raped 78-year old Sarah Mims Bowen in her home off Abercorn and 44th Street back in 1978. She died of heart failure during the attack.

Blankenship was set to die back in February but never could get enough evidence to clear his name.
