Group from 473rd Quartermaster Company to deploy to Iraq

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Sixty-three soldiers with the 473rd Quartermaster Company, 260th Quartermaster Battalion in Savannah will deploy to Iraq later this month.

A deployment ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. June 14 at the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum in Pooler.

The unit will help make up a Redistribution and Assistance Team that accounts for excess vehicles and other equipment in Iraq, according to the 3rd Infantry Division and Fort Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield public affairs office.

The equipment is then inspected, cleaned and accounted for, and then loaded onto a flatbed trailer to be sent to its next location. It is usually returned to the U.S., forwarded to units serving in Afghanistan or turned over to the Iraqis.

Families of the deploying soldiers will also be attending the ceremony.

The 473rd Quartermaster Company's last deployment was to Mosul, Iraq, where they supported Operation Iraqi Freedom from October 2009 to October 2010.
