SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A heat advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Monday.
The advisory is for these Georgia counties: Bryan, Effingham, Liberty, Bulloch, Screven, Candler, Evans, Tattnall, Long, McIntosh. It also includes these South Carolina counties: Hampton, Jasper and Beaufort counties.
A heat advisory means that hazardous heat index values are expected Monday afternoon into early this evening. The heat index values are expected to range from 105 to 110 degrees, but locally 110 to 112 degrees when the sea breeze pushes through the coastal counties after mid afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
Hot temperatures and moderate humidity will create a situation in which heat-related illness is possible.
The NWS urges those outdoors to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check in on relatives and neighbors.
For those working outside, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
