50 pounds of pot seized in bust

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

Three people were arrested June 23 in connection with marijuana and other drug charges by members of the Beaufort/Jasper Multi Agency Drug Task Force, local FBI and agents with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

A search warrant was carried out on the home of 51-year-old John David Allen at 29 Lancaster Place, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

Allen was discovered to be shipping marijuana to Hilton Head from California, according to the sheriff's office. 

During the search, investigators found and seized quantities of marijuana, hashish, prescription drugs, as well as several firearms and miscellaneous drug paraphernalia. 

An estimated 50 lbs of marijuana; about 2 oz of hashish; 11 tablets of Xanax; two long rifles; a handgun and miscellaneous drug paraphernalia were seized, according to the sheriff's office.

Timothy Lewis, 33, of Chewford, Mass., and Barbara Alfonzo, 29, of Miami, were identified as co-defendants involved in bringing the marijuana into Beaufort County and found at a Hilton Head hotel. 

Allen was charged with trafficking marijuana; possession with intent to distribute hashish; possession of a scheduled IV drug; possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Lewis was charged with trafficking marijuana; possession with intent to distribute hashish. Alfonzo was charged with trafficking marijuana; possession with intent to distribute hashish.

"Kids in the community have some place to come and have fun for a Saturday during the summer and we work with them in their education, give them a lot of information to help them during the summer," said Angela Dorsey, director.     The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office has made two arrests connected to several burglaries and vehicle break-ins in Burton. The break-ins occurred mostly on Mroz, Laurel Bay, and Rugrack roads. Deputies were able to gather forensic evidence from each of the scenes. Two suspects have been arrested in connection to a burglary at the Reach Out and Touch Ministries, a home break-in on Rugrack Road, and two vehicle break-ins on Mroz and Laurel Bay roads.
