K9 Cpl. Malachi nominated for Hero Dog Award

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - K9 Cpl. Malachi of Chatham County is up for this year's American Humane Association Hero Dog Award.

Malachi was rescued in 2008 from the pound and has been working with police since.

Malachi and his handler, Dep. Stephan Danstead, have made 145 arrests and have seized nearly a ton of marijuana.

"His ball drive is so tremendous ... it's a blessing. At work, he's 100 percent and as soon as he goes home with us he takes the badge off because he's a certified police officer as a corporal. When you get him home he's relaxed and calm just like I do when I get home," said Dep. Danstead.

Go to www.herodogawards.org and click on the law enforcement and arson dogs tab to vote for Malachi.  One vote is allowed a day until Aug. 31. On Oct. 1 the winner will be announced in Hollywood, Calif.
