Citizens who helped save boy from pitbull honored

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The city of Savannah offered a special thank you to some Good Samaritans  who helped rescue children from a pitbull attack.

Community members were recognized by the City Council for acting quickly when two pitbulls attacked children playing at treat avenue park on savannah's east side. One child received severe injuries from the attack.

Those accepting the honor said it was unfortunate that the children were caught in such a dangerous situation.

"The thing is anyone who is walking these dogs and like they say without a muzzle. We need to stop and make sure they've got the proper vaccinations and that everything is in order. This is terrible. It shouldn't have happened and hopefully it will never happen again," said Henry Murphy said.

Javon Robinson, 7, was scheduled for surgery Thursday and may be out of intensive care as soon as this weekend.
