Caspar Weinberger served American presidents through some of the most challenging times, and last night, the former secretary of defense in the Reagan administration spoke at a financial summit to hosted by SunTrust Bank at the Landings. He spoke about his experiences and attendees' investments in the ever-changing world economy. He also spoke one-on-one with our Sonny Dixon about the reasons behind the war with Iraq.
"There couldn't ever be any peace with anybody like Saddam Hussein, because he wouldn't keep any of his promises," Weinberger said. "He made all kind of promises at the end of the Gulf War and broke them systematically, and I think that we did what we had to do and did it extraordinarily well."
Weinberger served in World War II in the Pacific and on Gen. Douglas Macarthur's staff before entering the business world and eventually government service in Washington.
