Gnats rally stops short in 5-4 loss

SAVANNAH, GA – The Savannah Sand Gnats mounted a furious four-run ninth inning rally, but came up 90 feet short in a 5-4 loss to the Greensboro Grasshoppers Thursday night at Historic Grayson Stadium.

Gnats' CF Darrell Ceciliani struck out to end the game with LF Alonzo Harris, carrying the tying run, perched at third base.

The Gnats (12-3/51-33) trailed 5-0 heading to the ninth with an offense that had collected four singles in the first eight innings.  RF Rafael Fernandez led off with a double, and C Blake Forsythe followed by blasting a two-run home run to left-center field to get the Gnats on the scoreboard at 5-2.

It was the first home run that the Gnats have hit at home since April 23rd, 33 games ago.  The Gnats have hit five home runs in Savannah in 2011 compared to 32 on the road.
