Traffic along Abercorn Street was tied up for hours late last night after a six-vehicle pileup. Witnesses tell us a red SUV and a car were racing in the northbound lanes about 9pm last night, when the drivers lost control of the vehicles. The SUV flew over the median and hit a car and two pickups traveling in the southbound lanes. Another SUV collided with the pileup. One pickup wound up against a utility pole.
Police say two people were rushed to Memorial Health with varying degrees of injuries. Police also say it is apparent that speed played a part in the accident which shut down Abercorn just south of Tibet for at least three hours.
