Fort Stewart Artillery Unit Recognized as Army's Best

Some Fort Stewart soldiers have another reason to be proud. They're now known as some of the Army's best. Members of Alpha Battery, First Battalion, Ninth Artillery received the Knox Award as the best artillery unit in the entire Army. The award is based on their performance in Kuwait prior to the Gulf War and their service to the 3-7 Cavalry in Iraq.

"Col. Ferrell gives them great credit for the success 3-7 Cav had in their battles with the Iraqis in and around Fallujah," said Col. Tom Torrance, the division artillery commander.

The battery was in the field today for certification. They're under orders to be ready by February for another possible deployment.
