Port Wentworth home becomes crime scene

A man is behind bars and his wife is dead.  The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has confirmed a homicide did take place at a home on Old Mill Road in the Rice Creek subdivision.

Forty-seven-year-old Kenneth Sanders has been arrested and is in the Chatham County Jail. Sanders is facing charges of murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm / knife in committing a crime, and cruelty to children. All of the charges are felonies.

Saturday, police were called to Sanders' home, on his birthday. Neighbors say the couple's three young children ran for help, saying Sanders' stabbed their mother.

"They said he came home and started fussing and he pulled out his knife and started stabbing her and when he got off of her she said I feel like I'm dying. They kept asking if they could go check on their mother, but I told them they couldn't go back over there," said neighbor Lavonya Oliver.
