Forum Helps Seniors Avoid Crime

Some of the most vulnerable citizens in our neighborhoods are senior citizens. They're also some of the biggest victims of crime. But now one organization, called SALT--Seniors and Law Enforcement Together--is trying to teach seniors how not to be victims. Today the group met to discuss ways to keep elderly people safe.

Seniors are frequently victims of telemarketing fraud and burglaries, and con artists claiming to be from the Social Security office even force their way into their homes. Now police want to make sure these seniors know how to protect themselves. "They just need to be very careful and not just let anyone into their home," Star Cpl. Willet Williams of the Savannah-Chatham PD.

The SALT forum is made up of the Savannah-Chatham police and Chatham County Sheriff's Department.
