PORT WENTWORTH, GA (WTOC) -

The preliminary hearing for Kenneth Sanders Wednesday revealed horrific details about the murder of his wife Nancy Sanders.

Port Wentworth Detective Steven Holmes told the court Nancy Sanders was stabbed between forty and fifty times by her husband Kenneth.

"One of the stab wounds completely transected her trachea which means it cut her wind pipe in half," Holmes said.

Police say the murder took place in front of Nancy Sanders' three children ages four, seven, and nine.

Police say the four year old was on her mother's lap during part of the murder.

Nancy Sander's family was in court to listen to the gruesome details.

"If I could just get behind those bars...just give me five minutes with him. We don't have to pay this tax payer money...I'll take care of him," Nancy's brother Lawrence Bruin said.

Family members suspect because Kenneth Sanders is in the mental unit, he may try and use an insanity defense. But they say he is not crazy, just evil.

"He was planning this for a long time. People said he told them he was going to slice her up and stab her and cut her to death. I wish someone would have talked him out of it," Nancy's sister Judith Bruin said.

Police say the couple has a history of trouble.

Police say Nancy Sanders went to the Port Wentworth Police station earlier this year to tell them her husband bit her.

Nancy's friends had no idea about the abuse and are having a hard time accepting she is gone.

"We were like family and it's like we lost a family member...when you see Nancy coming down the hall all you could see was a smile," Tamalah Woolford said.

Nancy Sanders' family is trying to stay positive for her childrne, but can't help but be angry.

"I hope he rots in hell and I hope someone in prison gets him with slow torture. I don't want anybody dead...I want slow torture," Judith Bruin said.

Nancy's friends from high school have set up a fund to help the children. Donations are being accepted at any Wells Fargo Bank. The fund is called "Nancy Bruin Savannah High School Class of 2000 fund."
