Jellyfish among concerns at Tybee Island

For those who choose to cool off in the water off Tybee Island, there is another concern to keep in mind: jellyfish.

The high temperatures warm the water, attracting more jellyfish than usual earlier in the season, and leaving more swimmers with a painful sting.

"Kind of hard to prevent them," said Hunter Robinson of Tybee Island Rescue. "It seems we get a lot more stings when the tide is highest, or when its just turning and starting to go out. It's when they're the worst. Typically at low tide we don't have that many."

So far, there have been 9,000 reported jellyfish stings at Tybee this year.
