Third ID soldiers and Operation Iraqi Freedom veterans had a special guest today. The Reverend Jesse Jackson is visiting Fort Stewart. Jackson toured temporary housing for Army Reservists as well as the medical center. He says the Army and Bush administration had a strategy for winning the war but not for handling soldiers after they returned.
Jackson promised to take the information from this visit to Congress. "They were not planned for, and they deserve to be planned for," he said. "I intend for them to be spoken for, and we intend to do a part of that speaking."
Since soldiers' complaints attracted media attention, Fort Stewart has moved many "on hold" reservists to now-vacant barracks, nearby hotels and to other bases.
