A man who police say has been a constant problem for a Savannah antique store is finally in custody. Savannah-Chatham police tell us Maggie's Antiques has been burglarized at least eight times in the last couple of weeks. Officers from Precinct Two, B Watch say the suspect's luck ran out about 2:30am this morning when they received an alarm from the shop at 44th and Bull Streets.
Police surrounded the building, then found an opening in the back of the store's warehouse. A K-9 officer sent his dog in after the suspect refused to come out. The dog clamped onto the leg of the suspect and police quickly arrested him as the he tried to get away.
The unidentified man was taken to Candler Hospital for treatment of the dog bites. He will then be taken to the Chatham County jail. Detectives plan to interview the suspect later today and formal charges are expected.
