Police say a man caught in the act of burglarizing Maggie's Antiques in Savannah early Thursday morning has threatened to kill the police dog who caught him. The business had been burglarized at least six times in the last couple of weeks, but Savannah-Chatham police caught a suspect when an alarm went off at the store. Police found an opening and officer Joe Groover sent in his K-9 partner Nero after shouting two verbal warnings.
Nero grabbed the ankle of the suspect, identified as 40-year-old Richard Spencer III, until police could make the arrest. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and while there, police say Spencer stated that when he was released from jail "he would find officer Groover and kill Nero."
Spencer has an extensive arrest record and is wanted in Fulton County. He's now in the Chatham County jail.
