Low Country Firefighters Visit Schools

Firefighters are hoping visits to schools will help save lives. In Beaufort and Port Royal, they're traveling to different elementary schools each Friday and sitting down with students for lunch. They're hoping to build relationships with the students and maybe teach them something along the way.

"If they see a firefighter on a personal and friendly level, we're less than threatening should we have to see them on an emergency scene," said Beaufort firefighter Daniel Byrne.

Firefighters say this program is also helping them learn more about children, which they hope will help improve their fire-safety drills with the kids.
