BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) - A Beaufort woman was arrested and charged Thursday with running an escort service out of her home.

Patricia Alewine, 49, was charged with operating a sexually oriented business without a permit, operating without a business license and related offenses.

The investigation began in August after officers got reports of suspicious activity at the home at 2622 Joshua Circle and showed that she was running ads for the escort service online, according to Beaufort police.

The website directed potential clients on how to contact her and schedule appointments.

An undercover officer made an appointment to meet her at her home.

Alewine was arrested when she met him at the door. A search warrant was carried out at the home. Records, appointment books and other information were seized, according to police.

Glenn M. Bassett, 52, who was at Alewine's home while the home was searched, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of anabolic steroids, according to police.
