HINESVILLE, GA (WTOC) - A Fort Stewart soldier has been charged with murder and cruelty to a child.
Trevor Thomas Cushman-Clifton was escorted from his unit to the Hinesville Police Dept.
Investigators say he's responsible for the death of his fiance's 3-year-old daughter.
The child died in July. At that time, Cushman-Cclifton told police he heard a loud noise from her room, went to check on her and found her unresponsive, according to police.
The child was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Statement from 3rd Infantry Division Public Affairs Office:
"Private First Class Trevor Cushman-Clifton was arrested Thursday September 1 for suspected murder. He has been charged with one count murder and one count of felony child cruelty. A joint investigation between Fort Stewart Criminal Investigation Division and the Hinesville Police Department is ongoing and we are cooperating fully with the investigation. The alleged
actions that resulted in the charges are contrary to the values of the Third Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, and the Army. This is a tragic loss of life, and our thought and prayers are with the family who are suffering during this time."
