SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
Habitat Savannah's ReStore now has a 15-foot truck.
Longtime Habitat Savannah volunteer, Stan Plonchak, made the donation. He is the former co-owner of Hellman Electric Corp. in the Bronx, New York. Plonchak refurbished the 1997 Ford truck including installing a much-needed lift gate before delivering the truck to the ReStore, according to the organization.
The ReStore had been leasing a truck to collect donated building materials and furniture from local businesses and homeowners since it opened in March 2010.
"Having this truck allows us to pick up donations in a timely manner. Because of this donation we will become more efficient as we now have a reliable vehicle. I feel such a sense of pride when my crew drives up to a donor's home in this truck. This truck is going to have a major impact on how we get product in the ReStore for our customers," said ReStore Manager Charles Austin.
