New flag for Savannah Chatham Teacher of the Year

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - The ceremonial passing of the flag took place Sept. 9 at West Chatham Elementary School to announce this year's Teacher of the Year. Melissa Webb, a second and third grade gifted teacher at West Chatham, accepted the flag which now hangs outside of her school.

Webb's former students and parents of former students joined in the celebrations in the school's gymnasium. Webb said she was blessed last year to work with such an incredible group of students and parents.

Webb received the flag from last year's winner, Bettina T. Tate. Tate told WTOC she believes Mrs. Webb won the award because she is so passionate.

"I really feel like it's a calling that I have to make sure I'm giving all of myself to support all of the students so that they can in turn take my position one day and influence the lives of others," Webb said.
