SPRINGFIELD, GA (WTOC) - The body of a man who was killed in a fire over the weekend has been identified.
Charles Thompson, 52, of Springfield, was found several hours later in the back bedroom of a home in the 700 block of Courthouse Road by sheriff's deputies, according to the Effingham County Sheriff's Office. Fire crews were called to the scene at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
Thompson died of smoke inhalation and heat, according to initial autopsy results.
The State Fire Marshal determined that fire appears to have been electrical, according to the sheriff's office.
