PORT WENTWORTH, GA (WTOC) - The Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the City of Port Wentworth held a dedication for the Houlihan Bridge Boat Ramp Area on Monday afternoon. The goal of this area is to give boaters, fishers and anglers better access to the lake. Mark Williams, DNR Comissioner, believes this ramp area is crucial for the state economy.
"Fishing makes such a great economic impact on the state of Georgia, it brings in about $2 billion a year to the state and this ramp is a crucial part to it." said Williams.
The ramp features two boat ramps, two floating access piers, three boat washing stations, an informational kiosk, and parking for 45 trucks and trailers. The area is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
This ramp is just one of 17 ramps that are part of the Go Fish Georgia Initiative. This initiative aims to make Georgia a national fishing destination.
