Backpack found at HAAF not suspicious, officials say

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Officials at Hunter Army Airfield have determined that a backpack left at the airfield was not suspicious.

At about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, a report of a suspicious package was received at HAAF's Tuttle Army Health Clinic. HAAF police and fire personnel along with explosive ordinance teams from Savannah and Fort Stewart were dispatched to the scene.

Clinic personnel and patients were accounted for and evacuated from the facility along with people occupying surrounding buildings.

HAAF's Montgomery gate was closed for about three hours and has since reopened.
