Woman arrested on kidnapping, carjacking charges

PORT ROYAL, SC (WTOC) - A woman was arrested in Charleston on kidnapping and carjacking charges.

Port Royal police responded at about 3 a.m. Wednesday to Sunset Circle and Broad River Boulevard on a report of a kidnapping/carjacking.

A woman told police that she was at the Kangaroo Express at 845 Robert Smalls Parkway when she was approached by a woman who asked her for a ride to Savannah.

The woman told the woman identified as Pamela Nicole Habersham, 36, that she was not going toward Savannah and walked out the store, according to Port Royal police. Police said the woman followed her outside and got into the victim's vehicle without permission.

Habersham demanded the victim drive away, which the driver did. The victim pulled off the road and told Habersham to get out of the vehicle. Habersham physically assaulted the victim and took her vehicle, according to police.

Habersham was arrested hours later in Charleston after being involved in a serious vehicle accident on Interstate 26 in Charleston County, according to police. She was arrested by the Charleston County Sheriff's Office on two outstanding traffic citations.

Habersham is facing charges for Kidnapping and Carjacking following the investigation by the Port Royal Police Department. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating crash.
