PORT ROYAL, SC (WTOC) - Young men from AMIkids Beaufort are working this week at the assisted living facility Helena House in Port Royal.
They're working Thursday to Saturday as part of the "Restoring Carolina Through Youth Service," which a statewide project of the S.C. Department of Juvenile Justice.
AMIkids Beaufort aims to give a second chance to young men involved who are in non-violent crimes.
AMIkids Beaufort participants are provide painting and landscaping at the Helena House. They are also joining residents in social activities such as fishing, an ice cream social, playing bingo or going shopping, according to the organization.
Last year's "Restoring Carolina" involved 1,450 participants including 878 juveniles and volunteers in all 46 South Carolina counties, according to AMIkids Beaufort.
