Man identified in fiery Tybee crash

TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) - A man who was injured in a car crash Thursday morning on Tybee Island is in fair condition at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta.

Authorities said a car burst into flames and set a beach crosswalk on fire.

The crash happened just before 1:30 a.m. on the south end of the beach.

Tybee police arrived first and quickly got the man identified as Adam Pittman out of the car. Authorities said he is badly burned.

Pitman was was flown by Lifestar to Memorial and then transported to the burn center. The Tybee Fire Deparment quickly put the fire out, but the car is a total loss and the wooden crosswalk received extensive damage

Police are trying to find out more about how the wreck happened.
