Police investigate 2 homicides within blocks of each other

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police violent crimes detectives are investigating two homicides that happened within three blocks of each other between Montgomery and Jefferson streets.

Police were called at about 4:15 a.m. to an apartment house in the 300 block of West 41st Street on a report from neighbors that shots were fired.

Officers found a black male who is believed to be in his late teens in a common area of the house. Drugs were found near the body and police were already aware of previous drug activity in the house, according to SCMPD.

Shortly after discovering the body, police were alerted that the body of another black male who is believed to be in his early 20s was in the alley of the 300 block of 38th Street. The cause of that death has not been released.

"They were alerted to another person a few block away on 38th Street lane. It also turned out to be a black male, about the same age. We are not releasing the other cause of homicide. At this point, we are investigating as though they are separate incidents," said Julian Miller, public information administrator with the SCMPD.
