Cops: Teen's gun fires while filming rap video

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Two teens were arrested and charged in connection with an accidental shooting Thursday night at the Plantation Oaks apartments on Savannah's south side.

Darin Banister, 17, was charged with reckless conduct. Robert McLaughlin, 18, was charged with concealing evidence and altering the serial number of a firearm.

Bannister, McLaughlin and his roommate Darius Hay, 18, were in the apartment and others were filming a rap video in the apartment. Banister picked up McLaughlin's shotgun at about 9:43 p.m. Thursday belonging to McLaughlin and it fired, striking Hay, according to Savannah-Chatham Metro Police.

Everyone in the apartment ran, including McLaughlin, who hid the shotgun in bushes before leading police back to it, according to police.

McLaughlin and Banister were chased down at a nearby post office after shooting.

Hay was treated at Memorial University Medical Center for "birdshot" wounds to his face, according to police. His wounds were not considered life-threatening.
