Missing Student's Baby Due This Month

Naquanda Hayes can't forget Dena Carter. A picture of her next-door neighbor sits on her table and a flyer of the missing GSU student is not far away. "People are constantly asking me how is the investigation going, have you heard anything?" she said. "People are very concerned and they want this girl to come home."

Around Statesboro, Carter's face is hard to miss. She disappeared September 11 when she left her apartment to go study. Dena was six months pregnant at the time she vanished. Her mother took her things back home to California last month. Friends can't shake their worry.

The apartment that was Carter's is now empty. When she found out she was pregnant, doctors gave Carter a due date of December 25. With her still missing and no questions answered, friends say Christmas will be anything but merry.

"You're supposed to be bringing new life into the world on a very special day, and to know that might not happen is very devastating," said Hayes.

Classmates and friends from Carter's church continue to pass out flyers in hopes that her face will jog someone's memory. She hasn't been seen since she left her apartment to walk to the campus library. Again, if you think you have any information about her disappearance, you're asked to call the Statesboro Police Department at 912.489.8217 or your local authorities.
