City responds to minor sewer spill

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The city of Savannah worked fix a minor sewer spill on Sunday afternoon.

City Sewer Conveyance and Distribution crews got a report at about 4:50 p.m. Sunday that there was a sewage spill in the 200 block of Wilshire Boulevard.

Crews discovered a grease blockage caused sewage to overflow a manhole on Wilshire Boulevard near the Wilshire Canal, according to a city news release.

The blockage was removed at about 6:49 p.m. and the line was jetted and cleaned. An estimated 595 gallons of sewage spilled before it was contained, the release said.

A wireless manhole level monitor alarm sensor will be installed in the manhole that overflowed.
